There is some enigmatic aspect of this colour and it probably originates from the contradicting meanings it suggests: turquoise is introspective and very expressive at the same time, suggesting mental clarity, creativity and the ease of self-expression. A cup of tea from a nice turquoise mug? :-) Many healthcare institutions and recreation centers use this colour because of these properties, but we can also use it in our home if someone gets ill. Turquoise is also said to have an anti-inflammatory effect, so it helps us fight against viral infections and rheumatism. It is believed that this colour has serious healing properties, for example it helps neutralize over-acidity, stimulates growth, increases muscular strength, and soothens gastro-intestinal problems. It is strongly associated with uplifting the spirit as well as the body and recharging our inner batteries. Turquoise has a strong link to the colour of the ocean, so similarly to blue, it can be connected to calmness, serenity and peace. In this series, I would like to share this passion with you by having a closer look at the meaning of one colour at a time.Īfter exploring the meaning of red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple, brown and pink, we continue our journey with a magical, transformational dye, turquoise, which is an in-between colour of organic green and contemplative blue, carrying some characteristics from both. I even aspired to be an artist for a while, but then I finally chose psychology and for several years after graduation I was involved in a research dealing with the symbolism of colours. I have a passion for colours since my very early teenage years. Like Little House on the Prairie, or Anne of Green Gables, The Wishing Stone & Other Myths will take readers to a time and place where big dreams didn’t mean finding fame, but listening to the heart. We give strong unconscious reactions to different colours, therefore - knowingly or unknowingly - we are bombarded by "colour-coded" stimuli many times a day. Alongside her adventurous best friend, Sara, Dot must make ready for the future, whether it be on Gullcliff, in Aylmer Sound, or someplace out of her father’s dream. The Wishing Stone & Other Myths, Lessons Learned on Gullcliff Island will take both children and adults back in time through eleven-year-old Dot, a traditional girl coping with her father’s dream of becoming a boat-builder and the realization that Mum and Dad are people with thoughts, emotions, and secrets apart from the family. If more changes come, will that mean more people and more noise will come with them? Dot enjoys having both a winter and summer home, and knowing every face in three villages. At the same time, her rustic world is catching up with the modern towns in the rest of Canada and Dot isn’t sure how she feels about that. It’s 1961, and Dot is teetering between childhood and adolescence. And when the girls worried for the health of Sara’s mother, it made her healthy, and brought Sara her precious Pearl. When Dot tossed her wish into the sea, hoping for a friend her age, the stone brought her Sarah. If Dot wishes hard enough on her special stone, maybe the world will slow down and be a little less topsy-turvy. Let it be so and I’ll set you free, and toss you back with the tides where you belong. Please, she thought to the stone, let there be a best friend for me in that boat.
